100 Thieves defeat Gen.G, advancing to VCT lower bracket final

100 Thieves have defeated Gen.G to continue their run in the lower bracket of the closed qualifier for Valorant Champions Tour.

100 Thieves defeat Gen.G after a rocky second map

After an exhilarating first map that ended in 100 Thieves’ favor during quadruple overtime, Gen.G retaliated on Haven, winning map two. Haven was the Thieves’ map pick for the series, which was only fitting considering they had just beaten Gen.G on their map pick, Ascent. Both teams have already qualified for Masters later this month, but were facing off for better seeding and prize money.

100 Thieves had beaten Gen.G in the past, but both rosters had changed players since they last faced off. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive veteran Ethan “Ethan” Arnold recently joined 100 Thieves after leaving Evil Geniuses. Quan “Dicey” Tran was benched from the roster due to an inability change with the current Valorant meta. On the other hand, Gen.G recently added a CS:GO veteran themselves in Kenneth “koosta” Suen.

Gen.G show life on Haven, crumble on Bind

Gen.G was coming off a devastating map one where they threw a 10-2 lead at halftime on Ascent and lost in quadruple overtime 17-15 to 100 Thieves. However, things began to look up for the Canadian-dominated squad as they dismantled the Thieves on Haven. With the match now tied 1-1, 100 Thieves were ready to take control over Gen.G on Bind.

Bind started off rough for Gen.G who finished the half down 2-10, as 100 Thieves had at the beginning of the series. Unlike Gen.G, 100 Thieves were not ready to throw away an eight-round lead on one of their best maps. They defeated Gen.G in the second-half pistol round and brought the score to 11-2. Gen.G was quick to recover with back-to-back rounds, bringing the game to 11-4. 100 Thieves, now with money to buy guns, pushed Gen.G back and closed the game out 13-4.

With their win over Gen.G, 100 Thieves will move on to the lower bracket final against Luminosity Gaming. Luminosity were the ones that knocked 100 Thieves to the lower bracket of the last qualifier in the early stages. Whoever wins the next match will face off against FaZe Clan in the finals for the best possible seeding at Masters.
