Abed Azel ‘Abed’ L. Yusop was the
first ever player to reach ten thousand Match Making Rating (10k MMR) in Dota 2
on two occasions and now has also become the first to reach a brand-new
milestone in the game.
In 2016, before Abed was really
known outside of the Southeast Asia region yet, the player reached the 8000 MMR
milestone – and it was then that he started to become noticed in the Dota 2 scene.
The following year, 2017, Abed became the first Filipino player to acquire 9000
MMR, but the achievements did not end there that year. In mid-2017, Abed became
the first ever Dota 2 player to reach the solo MMR rating of 10k, a massive undertaking
for anyone. When Valve then changed their rating and ranking system, it was
once again Abed who peaked, reaching 10k under the new constraints and becoming
the first to do so – but now the player has climbed again.
Just a short time before writing,
Abed confirmed via his Twitter account that he had reached the peaks where no
player had gone before as he rose to 11,000 Match Making Rating. While we’ve
seen a long string of players reaching 10K, especially as much of the world is in
lockdown under the restraints of the COVID-19 pandemic, Abed has risen far
above everyone in his solo rating.
While there has been controversy surrounding
Abed before with many people claiming that Abed was boosted to 10K MMR back when
he first reached the goal, right now it seems that that has long since been
forgotten. It will be interesting to see if any other players manage to break
the 11k MMR mark in the coming months or if Abed will remain as the king of Dota
2 MMR for the time being.
