We finally know the details of the next version of League of Legends, and what changes Patch 10.14 will bring, changes that Riot Games claims will “teeter those who have been tottering, like Alistar, Kha’Zix, and Sejuani”.
Maybe that statement is not very specific, so let’s go further and see what exact calibrations to champions and new stuff is coming!
The first buff we have affects one of those “tottering” Champions: Alistar, whose Q – “Pulverize”, will be faster to cast, being its cooldown reduced from 17/16/15/14/13 to 15/14/13/12/11 seconds.
We have no changes to Alistar’s W, which means that this buff is meant to be effective in fights, but not to initiate them with the combo.
There’s been a lot of talks lately about modifications to Karthus. Riot Games have been suggesting on PBE some mechanical changes to make this Champion strong in the mid lane, rather than the jungle.
That is why with Patch 10.14, Karthus’ Q- “Lay Waste” will deal more damage, increasing from 45/65/85/105/125 (+0.3 ability power) to 50/70/90/110/130 (+0.35 ability power).
Also, Karthus’ E – “Defile” is changed. Its mana will always restore, instead of being restored only when toggled off. Plus, this spell will no longer deal damage 1 time per second, but 4 times per second instead (damage and cost per second are unchanged), and deactivating Defile will deal 1 tick’s worth of damage.
These changes will help Karthus to clean minion waves, giving him more sustain and making him stronger in fights… making him a viable mid-laner.
Kha’Zix is the third buffed Champion. Its Q – “Taste their Fear” will be stronger, with an Isolated Target Bouns Damage of 120%, instead of 100%.
With this buff, Riot wants Kha’Zix to be more frequent in our matches since they think “he’s on the low end of power for Average and Skilled players”.
Current meta allows us to play almost any Champ in the top lane, but there is one traditional top-laner that is pretty forgotten: Riven. That is why Riot Games include her in the buff list.
Riven’s Passive – “Runic Blade”, whose Bonus Damage was 25-50% of total attack damage (from level 1 to 18) will increase to 30-60% of total attack damage (from level 1 to 18). Lifesteal and critical strikes will also apply to this damage from now.
Sejuani, whose golden days passed a long time ago, will receive a buff on her E – “Permafrost”. The Base Damage will increase from 40/90/140/190/240/ to 55/105/155/205/255, and the Frost Cooldown will be reduced and simplified: Stunned enemy champions could not gain Frost for 10/9/8 seconds in levels 1/7/14, but from now, stunned enemy champions cannot gain Frost for 8 seconds in every level.
This is an important buff to one of the most useful abilities of Sejuani, so we will probably see her again soon in Competitive games.
The last buffed Champion in the list is Zed. Riot Games have intentions to bring him back to higher elo games, giving him more consistency in his combos and more outplay potential.
That is why Zed’s W – “Living Shadow” will have an increased Missile Speed, coming from 1750 to 2500, and a reduced cooldown from 22/20/18/16/14 seconds to 20/18.5/17/15.5/14 seconds.
The first in the nerfs list is one of the Champions that deserve it the most: Ezreal, probably the strongest AD Carry of the current meta.
His abilities make him be very safe in the lane during the early game and very strong in the mid and late game. That is why his E – “Arcane Shift” will be nerfed: its cooldown will be increased from 25/22/19/16/13 seconds to 28/25/22/19/16 seconds.
As we said in another article, Riot Games want Pyke to be just Support, not able to carry or sustain a whole lane by himself. They want Pyke to be more dependant on an AD Carry, and that is why they are changing three abilities.
His Q -“Bone Skewer” will cost less mana in the first levels, coming from 70 to 50/55/60/65/70. Q’s cooldown is reduced from 12/11/10/9/8 seconds to 10/9.5/9/8.5/8 seconds and its base damage increases from 75/125/175/225/275 to 85/135/185/235/285.
His W – “Ghostwater Dive” will have a single bonus of movement speed. Instead of being 40/45/50/55/60%, it will be 40% at all ranks.
His E – “Phantom Undertow” deals now more base damage, changing from 95/125/155/185/215 to105/135/165/195/225.
Trundle is the third Champion in the nerfs list. Riot Games want to revert the Patch 9.6 buff that gave the troll a great early game clear speed and dueling prowess.
That is why Trundle’s W -“Frozen Domain” will give less bonus attack speed, changing from 30/47.5/65/8205/100% to 20/40/60/80/100%.
Varus is also a strong AD Carry, but he has been replaced by other Champions like Kalista or Aphelios. That is why it is a surprise to see him in the nerfs list, and not these others.
Riot confess their intentions to make him weaker in the early game, and they nerf his Q – “Piercing Arrow” whose maximum bonus damage ratio changes from 150% of total attack damage to 125/130/135/140/145% of total attack damage (minimum damage is always 66% of the maximum damage).
His E – “Hail of Arrows” is also nerfed, being its base damage decreased from 70/105/140/175/210 to 50/90/130/170/210.
Since its rework, Volibear has been extremely strong, not only in competitive but also in SoloQ games. That is why Volibear’s Base Stats will be nerfed. To be exact, its base Attack Speed, that will slightly decrease from 0.66 to 0.625.
Its W – “Frenzied Maul” also changes to make Volibear less strong in the jungle: the wounded enemy heal, that was only reduced by 50% on minions, will also be reduced, in the same percentage, with monsters too.
And last but not least, one of the most determinant flex-picks we are having lately: Wukong.
The Monkey King’s R – “Cyclone” will have a shorter knockup duration, changing from 0.75 seconds to 0.6 seconds.
