Call of Duty 2020 – which is believed to be called Black Ops Cold War – will surely be one of the biggest games of the year. Typically Activision lift the lid on the next entry in the hugely popular FPS series around May each year. However, that hasn’t been the case in 2020 with COD fans still waiting to get their first glimpse of the next Call of Duty game.
It had been thought that, due to the PlayStation marketing deal, the next Call of Duty title could be getting announced at a Sony event.
State of Play streams have been the place where Activision have unveiled new COD content in the past.
So when the upcoming State of Play stream for August was announced COD fans were left hoping that a Call of Duty 2020 reveal could soon be upon us.
However, it looks like the wait to see Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will go on for awhile longer.
Notable industry insider Shinobi602 on ResetEra looks to have put to bed hopes that Call of Duty could be appearing at this week’s State of Play event.
That’s the bad news. However, the good news is we may not have much longer till the next COD game does get announced.
Sony are also rumoured to be holding another PS5 focused event in August, with today’s stream mainly concentrating on PS4 and PSVR games.
The next PS5 event is expected to unveil the heavily rumoured Silent Hill reboot as well as Final Fantasy 16 – which could be a timed PS5 exclusive.
While the next, big PS5 event could also showcase the first glimpse of the next God of War game and reveal revivals for Ape Escape and SOCOM.
And fans will also be hoping the rumoured PS5 stream will at last reveal details on the price, release date and when pre-orders open.
If Sony does have another PS5 event in store for August then that could be when Call of Duty 2020 gets announced.
In an earnings call earlier this week Activision confirmed that a new Call of Duty game would be releasing this year.
Activision President Rob Kostich said: “Treyarch and Raven are coming up with the next premium game, and obviously, very excited about what they’re working on and we do think fans are going to absolutely love it.
“The game looks incredible right now, and internally, people are having a ton of fun playing across its campaign mode as well as the online modes that the developers are very well known for. And so, all I can say in terms of timing is I suspect you’ll be hearing more about this fairly soon.”
While on Twitter Treyarch also teased that a reveal for Call of Duty 2020 could be inbound soon.
They posted: “It’s official. Looking forward to showing you what we’ve been cooking up with @RavenSoftware!”
So, even if Call of Duty 2020 does not appear during today’s State of Play from the sounds of it it looks like fans won’t have too much longer to wait.
