If you were hoping that this year’s new Call Of Duty would be better at keeping out cheaters it seems they’ve already cracked the game.
Call Of Duty: Vanguard isn’t out for two months and yet it already has a problem with cheats. The open beta ends on Monday afternoon and yet all weekend players have been reporting that it’s infested with cheaters.
Black Ops Cold War and Warzone have been fighting an apparently losing battle against cheats over the course of the last year, and it was hoped that the release of Vanguard would at least slow them down a little, until its code was cracked, but apparently it already has been.
As usual, it’s the PC version which seems to be the root of the problem, since PC games are naturally easier to hack, and that’s likely to increase calls that PC players be kept separate when matchmaking.
Activision had promised that Vanguard would feature new anti-cheat measures but while they may not have been up to full speed during the beta it’s clearly not an encouraging start.
To be fair, Activision and its developers have not been idle in their attempts to address the issue, with over 600,000 Warzone permabans since last year and the warning that if you’re banned from Warzone you’ll also be banned from Vanguard.
Other news from the beta includes the datamining of all 20 multiplayer maps, which have been dissected by fans on Reddit (the link also includes the name of the story campaign chapters, if you consider that a spoiler).
References to new modes called Control, Arms Race, Minefield, Crawl, and Patrol have also been found, although there’s no guarantee all will be available at launch. The only one that has a description is Minefield, where players drop mines when they die.
The leak also seems to have identified six so far unannounced operators that will be in the game from launch: Beatrice (French), Constanze (Latin), Solange (French/Latin), Shigernori (Japanese), Padmavati (Hindi), and Halima (Arabic).
There are also four other operators, named Lewis, Francis, Isabella, and Liu, but they’re believed to be DLC intended for after launch.
