CD Projekt Red is currently working on Cyberpunk 2077, but it sounds like a Witcher game starring Ciri is also in the works.
CD Projekt Red’s next major title, Cyberpunk 2077, is still on track to release later this year, but fans of the studio’s work are also excited for what could come after.
We do already know that another Witcher game is on the cards, which makes even more sense for CD Projekt Red now considering the success of the Netflix TV show.
CD Projekt Red also stated that whatever comes next won’t be The Witcher 4, implying that we’ll instead see some sort of spin-off title.
One popular idea is a game with the character of Ciri in the lead role, and now the studio has strongly teased the possibility itself.
VG247 recently interviewed The Witcher 3 co-writer Jakub Szamałek during a Q&A session with CD Projekt Red.
When asked if they would ever consider continuing the series with Ciri as the star, Szamałek only replied with ‘Would you like to play a game with Ciri as a lead character?’
To add fuel to the fire, Szamałek added that his biggest regret regarding The Witcher 3 was not exploring Ciri’s past in more detail, something a game with her as the star could easily rectify.
‘She’s such an amazingly rich and complex character. Due to obvious reasons – well, she’s pretty much gone for two-thirds of the game – she didn’t get quite as much screen time as we writers would have liked. But hey, maybe it’s something we’ll get to get back to in the future.’
