CD Projekt’s Adam Badowski is focusing on other duties with Gabriel Amatangelo taking over as Cyberpunk 2077’s director.
It’s been five months since Cyberpunk 2077 released and with it having received multiple updates and fixes, fans’ attention is likely on the promised DLC that’s in development.
However, according to Gamesindustry.biz, director Badowski is no longer in charge of the game and its future, having stepped down from the role.
He hasn’t left the company and remains the head of studio. He will simply be refocusing on other leadership duties, such as CD Projekt’s new strategy to develop multiple AAA games simultaneously.
Amatangelo was already working on the game as creative director and has been with CD Projekt since January 2020.
This appears to be his first time holding a director position and before CD Projekt, he worked as a creative director and design director at BioWare, contributing to the online role-playing game Star Wars: The Old Republic and DLC for Dragon Age: Inquisition.
The current roadmap for Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t give an exact date for when any of this free DLC will be out; only that it will start to arrive after the two major patches (both of which have been released) and before the end of the year.
No doubt Amatangelo will also oversee the game’s eventual release on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. There have similarly been no new updates on that front, with the roadmap only saying that they will release by the end of 2021.
Cyberpunk 2077 was going to have a separate multiplayer game as well, but CD Projekt decided to cancel the project and instead integrate multiplayer into Cyberpunk 2077. There’s no set date for these features so it’s likely that multiplayer won’t arrive until 2022.
Gamesindustry.biz also reports that the game’s quest director, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, has left the studio. He announced his departure earlier today on his LinkedIn account, only saying it was time for a change.
Tomaszkiewicz worked at CD Projekt for 12 years. Before becoming Cyberpunk 2077’s quest director, he was a quest designer on The Witcher 3 and directed the Thronebreaker card game spin-off.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Stadia. Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions are in development.
