Def Jam: Fight For NY ‘special announcement’ coming, as Ice T calls for reboot

It looks like Fight For NY could be getting a reboot or remake as Def Jam Recordings and Ice T both tease a new game.

Rumours of a new Def Jam game seem to circulate every few years but this time it looks like it might really be happening, as Def Jam Recordings warn that a ‘special announcement’ is coming soon.

To be fair, they often tweet vague hints at a new game on Twitter but this time they were much more specific than usual: ‘Once our Twitter hits 1 million, we have a special announcement for y’all’.

That was on Sunday and according to Twitter their number of followers is now exactly 1 million, so if this wasn’t just a con to get more subscribers then we should hopefully be hearing something very soon – potentially a remaster, remake, or sequel.

Icon was made by EA Chicago, who have since been shut down, but the original two games were by EA Canada and Japanese developer AKI, now known as syn Sophia and well respected for their various wrestling games.

That makes sense as Def Jam was always more of a wrestling game than a one-on-one fighter, except with hip hop stars instead of WWE athletes.

What makes the current tease extra believable is that only a couple of weeks beforehand Ice T was also tweeting about the game, saying it should have a ‘reboot’ for the ‘new consoles’.

Now that could be a coincidence, but since Ice T was in the original you’d think he’d know if it was getting a new game or not.

The original publisher was EA and with rumours that they also have a Mass Effect remaster to announce it could be they’re planning some kind of new reveal event soon…
