Blizzard fans are counting down until the Diablo 2 Resurrected release time across PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo platforms.

A dream for many, the remastering of the cult-favourite game is expected to see hundreds of thousands of fans return to the world of Rogue Encampments and Lut Gholein.

From what has been shared so far, much of the original experience has been kept, although there are plenty of tweaks and changes that gamers should know about.

And for those wanting to know the backstory, here’s the world setting for the Resurrected Diablo 2:

“From the darkness emerged an unlikely hero, one of many drawn to Tristram seeking to put an end to the plague of demons. He delved deep into the labyrinthine bowels of the Cathedral, slaughtering fiends and uncovering Diablo’s nefarious plot before coming face-to-face with the Prime Evil himself.

“The hero succeeded in besting Diablo but was forced to embed the soulstone within his own forehead to contain the Lord of Terror once more.

“Though the hero had prevailed over Diablo, the power of the soulstone overwhelmed him. A broken man who had been hollowed into little more than a vessel for Diablo, the hero took up the mantle of the Dark Wanderer and began journeying eastward.

“Thus, in the wake of destruction, does the story of a humble new hero begin: your story. Embark, if you dare, upon a journey into the suffocating darkness of Sanctuary where you’ll unravel the mysteries of the Dark Wanderer and unearth the fates of the Prime Evils.”

While the setting and story will remain the same, Blizzard has made some notable changes behind the scenes.

This includes adding a shared stash system that will allow gamers to exchange items between their characters, as well as have more space via the 10×10 stashes in Resurrected.

But the biggest change of all is bringing Diablo 2 to consoles, making it possible to play on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch for the first time ever.

Diablo trailer

Blizzard has confirmed that the Diablo 2 Resurrected release date has been scheduled for Thursday, September 23, 2021

This will be when servers go live, so even if you receive an early copy, you will still have to wait until Thursday to have access to all online features.

And Blizzard has also announced when things will be kicking off, with the Diablo 2 Resurrected release time set for 4pm BST in the UK.

For gamers in North America, Diablo 2 will become playable at 8am PDT on the same day.

There is always the possibility of delays in servers going online or technical problems that hamper gamers playing together.

But if everything goes according to plan, Diablo 2 fans across all platforms will be able to log in and start playing at the same time on September 23.

The one big bonus PC gamers have is that they can preload the game right now via Battle.Net to make sure they can start playing as soon as everything is ready.
