Elder Scrolls Online PS4 Servers Currently Down For "Severe Hitching" Issues

The Elder Scrolls Online went offline this morning for scheduled maintenance, but PS4 servers in North America and Europe are still down due to “severe hitching” issues. ESO players on PS4 are currently unable to jump into the game, although both Xbox and PC servers appear to be problem-free.

Bethesda is aware of the issue and is currently working with Sony to identify the root cause. The team is working to get “everyone back in-game as quickly” as they can, although there’s no indication as to a timeline for the fix.

Here’s the latest update from the ESO team:

“We wanted to provide more information about the current issue surrounding PlayStation maintenance. This morning while we were testing the build, we discovered some pretty severe hitching that was rendering the game unplayable that only impacts PlayStation builds.”

The announcement continues: “We’ve been working with Sony to identify the root cause and get the issue resolved, and we want to get everyone back in-game as quickly as we can. We’ll let you know when we have an update on this. Thanks for your ongoing patience today.”

Xbox and PC servers were up and running after maintenance at around 9am ET, although PS4 players are still locked out of the game.

The Elder Scrolls Online update included various fixes for the Flames of Ambition dungeons recently added to the game – along with several smaller bug fixes – and clocked in at approximately 990MB.

Beyond this recent hitch, ESO has been off to a surprisingly strong start in 2021. Bethesda recently announced the title crossed the 18 million account threshold, making it one of the most successful MMOs on the market.

The game will also be releasing the Blackwood Chapter later this year, bringing a new region, questline, and Companions to its player base.

If you’re curious about the game, you can currently jump into The Elder Scrolls Online for free – unless you’re on PS4. In that case, you’ll need to wait for the servers to go online first.
