Get A Taste For Strixhaven: A Curriculum Of Chaos With This Free Dungeons & Dragons One-Shot Adventure

Dungeons & Dragons' Magic the Gathering crossover Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos doesn't launch until next week, but Wizards of the Coast wants you to get a feel for what's going on at the multiverse's most elite magical university with a free slice-of-life one-shot campaign set within the school's café.

No Tears Over Spilled Coffee! is a short adventure designed for level one characters, to be run either as a one-off taster of Strixhaven or as part of a wider campaign at the school. In it, the party has to work together as new employees at the university's Firejolt Café, as they're undertrained and left in charge by their ailing manager. Just another day working in the service industry, then.

This is Strixhaven, though, so things quickly get weirder in the adventure, which is available on D&D Beyond. Starting out with mastering drinks orders and dealing with the morning rush, soon the party is trying to protect the café from a monster who has taken up residence in the Firejolt's newsstand.

The adventure is designed to introduce players to Strixhaven's extracurricular activities, as the sourcebook prides itself on being more slice-of-life than the usual D&D campaign. As well as attending lessons and fighting monsters, A Curriculum of Chaos encourages your party to join clubs like LARPing or Theater, or find jobs to make a bit of extra money. In No Tears Over Spilled Coffee!, the party can choose to be either a barista, cashier, member of the cleanup crew, or a server, and doing so will grant them one gold piece by the end of the day (to be carried over to your full Strixhaven campaign should you decide to do so).

No Tears Over Spilled Coffee! and Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos are both based on the Magic the Gathering set Strixhaven: School of Mages, which launched earlier this year and introduced us to the school and its five colleges. The sourcebook takes place over all four years of a student's time at Strixhaven, and lets you join the artistic Prismari, mathematic Quandrix, adventureous Lorehold, 'bio-goth' Witherbloom, or snide and cutting Silverquill. The book features four longer adventures, although there is enough information on the world included to make your own campaigns.

To play No Tears Over Spilled Coffee!, the whole campaign is available on the D&D Beyond website. Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos launches on December 7.
