GTA 6 release wait may be long, but new video shows why it will be worth it

GTA 6 release date looks to be a long way off, but new footage has shown why the wait will be worth it for Grand Theft Auto fans. We’re currently in the midst of the longest wait ever for a brand new Grand Theft Auto game – over six and a half years – and that doesn’t look like it’ll change anytime soon. Rockstar Games’ parent company Take Two recently revealed that their next fiscal year – which ends in March 2021 – looks set to be a ‘light’ one in terms of releases.

But, as revealed in a post by Tezfunz2, teased an “array of titles” are planned to launch in the financial year that covers April 2021 and March 2022.

GTA was not specifically mentioned, but the comments do seem to indicate the next AAA release from Take Two – and potentially Rockstar – is awhile off.

And as the wait for the next Grand Theft Auto game rumbles on a new video has emerged which has given a glimpse into just how good GTA 6 could launch.

The next GTA game is widely rumoured to be only coming to next-gen consoles, and a release in 2021 or beyond could indicate that is the case.

One of the big features of the next-gen consoles will be ray tracing graphics, which the PS5 and Xbox Series X are capable of.

This rendering technique helps to create extremely lifelike lighting and shadow effects, and is used in Hollywood movies and TV shows to create jaw-dropping CGI scenes.

If GTA 6 is – as rumoured – only coming to next-gen consoles then it’s likely it’ll take full advantage of this state-of-the art tech.

And we’ve been given a glimpse into how good GTA 6 could end up looking thanks to a ray-tracing mod that is in the works for GTA 5.

As reported on in a post by Inverse, Natural Visions Evolved is a new mod that is in the works for Grand Theft Auto 5.

And the ray tracing tech seen in the mod completely transforms a game that was first released back in 2013 into something that looks spectacular.

The mod features a complete overhaul of GTA 5’s lighting system, textures, building models and ambient colour.

The upshot of that is the visuals of GTA 5 are completely revitalised with the Natural Visions Evolved mod, looking almost photo-realistic at times.

GTA 5 was first on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 and on PS4, Xbox One and PCs in 2014.

And if a ray tracing mod can have such a drastic effect on an ageing game like GTA 5, imagine how good GTA 6 could look if built solely for the next-gen consoles?

We look to be in store for a long wait until fans find out official word on GTA 6, let alone get the first proper glimpse of the highly anticipated title.

But in the meantime this latest GTA 5 mod is the best glimpse so far of how good GTA 6 could end up looking when it finally is released.
