The second season of Halo Infinite content has barely begun and 343 Industries is already apologising for new problems.
Despite an initially positive reception to its launch, it seems like there’s been a growing resentment towards Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. Complaints have frequently been directed towards its battle pass, initial lack of content, and that its first season dragged on for half a year. Players even began flocking to the older games for an alternative Halo fix.
Season 2 kicked off last week and while it did freshen things up with new additions, it’s unfortunately brought a host of new problems with it. Problems 343 Industries claims it’s addressing.
Community manager John Junyszek took to Twitter to explain the situation. Firstly, the tracking issue for challenges, related to the new Last Spartan Standing mode, should already be fixed.
Players had complained that any challenge progress they made wasn’t being counted if they left matches early, even though the game says that shouldn’t happen.
Secondly, semi-automatic weapons like the battle rifle are occasionally jamming. Junyszek insists that this is a bug and not a new game mechanic and a fix is in the works. No release date has been provided yet.
As a gesture of goodwill, and to compensate for the issues, Junyszek promises that any players who log in during the Interference event will receive five XP boosts and five challenge swaps.
Also, this week’s event challenges should be easier to complete, and they’ll even reward you with two levels on the event pass instead of one. The event will last until Monday, May 16.
Campaign co-op was meant to launch alongside season 2, but an update on the Halo Waypoint website revealed that it won’t arrive until late August.
Since the Season 2 update adds just as many problems as it fixes, fan discontent is unlikely to go away anytime soon, especially as one of the primary complaints is how slow 343 is to address issues.
Between frequent apologies, content delays, and season 1 being stretched out for far longer than planned, development on the multiplayer has been nothing but turbulent. It’s left 343 constantly playing catch-up on top of creating all-new content, which on its own isn’t enough to make up for the recurring problems.
Halo Infinite is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
