Latest Call Of Duty: Warzone Update Is Almost 60GB, But It Will Reduce Game’s Overall File Size

The latest Warzone update is almost 60GB. Activision claims this is necessary to reduce the game’s overall footprint and ensure future updates are smaller.

While the Call of Duty franchise is celebrated, for the most part, it has been heavily criticized recently for the filesize of its games. Particularly since Warzone launched a year ago. The reveal that the latest Warzone update will occupy an additional 57.8GB on some platforms is not a welcome announcement. However, according to Activision, it is a necessary evil to help counteract the game’s massive filesize going forward.

“Enhancements to the overall content management system have been made possible through data optimization and streamlining content packs needed for individual game modes,” is the official word from Activision. The update will allow you to remove game modes you don’t want or use, and reduce the filesize by varying amounts depending on the platform. You can check out exactly how efficient the patch will be for you below.

  • PlayStation 5: 10.9GB (Warzone only), 30.6GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)
  • PlayStation 4: 10.9GB (Warzone only), 30.6GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)
  • Xbox Series X/S: 14.2GB (Warzone only), 33.6GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)
  • Xbox One: 14.2GB (Warzone only), 33.6GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)
  • PC: 11.8GB (Warzone only), 30.6GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)

In defense of Actisivison and its Call of Duty titles, that’s a lot of extra room. However, for those playing Modern Warfare and Warzone, you’re going to need a lot of room for the new update in the first place. Exactly how much room you will need can be found below, and yes that is an accurate number for the Warzone and Modern Warfare updates on PC.

  • PlayStation 5: 52.0GB
  • PlayStation 4: 52.0GB
  • Xbox Series X/S: 57.8GB
  • Xbox One: 57.8GB
  • PC: 52.4GB (Warzone Only), 133.6GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare)

The gargantuan updates ushered in by CoD’s Warzone era reached a fever pitch when it came to light that a 500GB PS4 could no longer house Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Warzone at the same time. Activision has continued to promise it will do something about it, and this is the first evidence of that being the case. The only problem is it feels a little like players have to take two giant steps back before moving forward.
