While the new Avengers character will release on time, some of the extra content has been pushed back to a later, unspecified date.
After launching back in September, Marvel’s Avengers will shortly be receiving its first meaningful piece of DLC: new playable character Kate Bishop.
She’ll be accompanied by new story missions set after the events of the main campaign and a boss fight against obscure Marvel villain Super Adaptoid on December 8.
Unfortunately, the game’s official Twitter account has had to confirm that some of the other content, namely the AIM Cloning Lab missions and an extra-hard version of the Super Adaptoid boss fight, have had to be pushed back.
While it’s good to know that the main core of the DLC (Kate and her storyline) will release on time, this news is only the latest in a series of delays and disappointments for the game.
Not only has the player-base substantially dwindled, but the game has clearly not performed as well financially as Square Enix hoped, according to a recent financial briefing.
DLC was supposed to be what would win players back and, after delaying it once already, the developers have now had to cut back on what’s on offer.
A quick glance at the responses on Twitter shows mixed responses from fans. Some reiterate their frustrations with how the game is being handled and the lack of communication considering they’re only being told about the delay four days before release.
Others, however, are attempting to defend the development team and admit to being okay with waiting a while longer if it means ensuring the new content is bug-free.
Avengers is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia. It will release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2021.
