Mass Effect Remaster release date is October and it's already been pre-ordered

Rumours of a remaster of the Mass Effect Trilogy just got real, as one fan claims to have already pre-ordered the new release from GAME.

People have been talking about a remaster of the Mass Effect Trilogy for years, with developer BioWare seeming to hint at it multiple times, but nothing official has ever been confirmed.

However, EA has said they still have another, unannounced, remaster to release before the end of March and there’s been a peculiar increase in Mass Effect merchandise due for release between now and then, including an artbook and a ton of stuff on BioWare’s store.

But when a release date list popped up on Twitter, purporting to be from GAME’s in-store system, it looked far too much like a fake for anyone to believe. Until one fan decided to try and pre-order the game and found out that it worked…

Recounting their story on Reddit, Waymantis claims to have gone to his local GAME store and pre-ordered the game with the stated 29 September release date.

They got a receipt and were able to confirm their pre-order on GAME’s app. However, after advertising their find others were unable to do the same, with GAME apparently realising their mistake – even though they didn’t cancel Waymantis’ pre-order.

Not only did they not cancel the pre-order but the date indicated on the app moved to 30 October, which is a Friday and a perfectly believable release date.

As if that wasn’t enough, respected insider shinobi602 commented on forum ResetEra that while the original September release date, and the name, was wrong the listing itself is real and not a fake.

All of this points towards Mass Effect Remastered coming out this October, which means an announcement from EA is presumably imminent.

And while it’s a bit odd to remaster the trilogy just before the launch of the next generation consoles, it would be a lot more work to get all three games looking next gen quality than it would making them for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

In any case, a remaster of the original trilogy is the perfect way to prime people for a new Mass Effect game and wash away the taste of Mass Effect: Andromeda.
