PlayStation To Host A Ratchet And Clank-Heavy State Of Play This Week

PlayStation will host a State of Play live stream later this week that will focus largely on new details about Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

An all-new trailer for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart dropped earlier today. The trailer finally revealed the name of the new female lombax that will play a big part in the sequel. She’s called Rivet, and she forms quite the bond with Clank in the trailer which you can check out below. The trailer was followed up with an announcement via the PlayStation blog that a State of Play is coming later this week.

The State of Play, which will take place on April 29, 2021, will focus largely on Rift Apart. It will showcase a full 15 minutes of gameplay, during which a lot will be revealed about the much-anticipated sequel. The trailer below is less than two minutes long and revealed a lot, so just imagine what PlayStation can do with quarter of an hour.

While not confirmed, it’s assumed most of the gameplay will focus around Rivet. She will be a playable character but even though she is the same species as Ratchet, might well feel very different to use. Rivet is from a different dimension after all. However, even if you’re not a Ratchet and Clank fan, we would recommend tuning in.

Although Rift Apart will be the focus, there’s a very real chance some other games will get a look in. Returnal comes to PS5 this Friday, just hours after the State of Play, so it seems very likely it will be featured in the presentation in some way. PlayStation owners are also desperate for something, anything in the way of information about God of War: Ragnarok. A fresh teaser at the very least would stave off those fans for a few more weeks.

PlayStation’s last State of Play happened in February and was labeled disappointing by many. It did feature the reveal that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be getting an upgrade and an expansion though, which was very good news. Since Intergrade has a release date one day before Rift Apart, there’s a strong chance it is also featured in this week’s State of Play in some way.

Josh has been gaming for as long as he can remember. That love began with a mild childhood addiction to the Sega Genesis, or Mega Drive since he lives in the UK. Back then, Sonic 2 quickly became his favorite game and as you might have guessed from his picture, the franchise has remained close to his heart ever since. Nowadays, he splits his time between his PS4 and his Switch and spends far too much time playing Fortnite.
