According to the latest news shared by Sony PlayStation, PS Plus subscriber numbers dropped by over 1 million when compared to the last two quarters.

That means the Q1 financial result confirms a short-term dip, which covers between March and ending June 30.

Sony reported a total PS Plus subscriber group of 46.3 million, which is up 1.3 million year-on-year, which raises some questions over what is happening.

Sony PlayStation shared their own ideas on what has happened, highlighting how a decline in monthly active users highlights what has happened in the world over the past 12 months.

Sony’s chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki shared this statement during the Sony earnings call, telling investors:

“Of course, 104m is not a strong number, but are we looking at it as a declining trend?

“We don’t think so. We are trying to analyse different elements, but there are no conspicuous trends that we can capture.

“Maybe this month or next month we will have to continue to watch and do an analysis.”

While this news could be seen as less than positive, a further comment from Totoki suggests that this result could be good for subscribers.

He revealed that plans were being put in place to enhance the PlayStation platform, adding:

“At the risk of repetition, may I say that last year the stay-at-home demand was so significant in hindsight, so compared to that period last year as a trend of course (it’s decline). Compared to fiscal 2019 there is an increase.

“So, we will monitor the situation carefully and we will deepen the engagement and enhance the platform, therefore during the coming fiscal year we will take actions to support this business.”

PlayStation look back at every game from the PS4 generation
