News this week concerning the video games market paints a good picture for Sony PlayStation whatever they have planned to succeed the PS4 console.
A new company will soon be entering the gaming market, offering a new rival service to the PS4 and Xbox One.
This would include Google’s Stadia platform, a streaming service that is hoping to make a big splash later this year.
The price of the new service as well as what kind of gaming selection will be available at launch, remain a mystery for now.
However, we do know that Google Stadia is launching this year and will rival the PS4 and Xbox One immediately.
But it appears that Sony PlayStation may have less to worry about than Microsoft’s Xbox One.
According to a new report from UK based research agency Harris Interactive, it appears Google’s big reveal has had an impact.
When asked for consideration of Stadia against the next generation of consoles, Stadia performs well, just behind the next Xbox and ahead of the next Switch.
This is one of the findings from the new report, which surveyed over 2,000 people on various questions.
The questions read: “Now imagine that you were to buy a new game console, which of the following would you consider buying? And which one of the following would you be most likely to buy?”
The report concludes that 25% of people questioned said they would consider the Stadia as an option, while 19% were likely to buy.
However, this puts Stadia third behind Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s next Xbox console.
41% said they would most likely buy the PlayStation 5, while only 24% said the same about the next Xbox.
That put’s Microsoft’s next console in a much closer range with the Stadia, which could prove bad news further down the line.
However, another finding from the UK survey also revealed that commitment to buying into Stadia is most pronounced among higher gaming spenders and PC gamers, with console owners being least committed.
It’s certainly food for thought in 2019, but it should also come with some insights too.
Right now, we don’t know what the new PS5 will be like, and we can’t say for sure what Microsoft has planned for their new Xbox console.
So this points to an evaluation of the market straight after the Stadia was announced and means things could be influenced greatly by new knowledge.
It appears that gamers have a rough idea how much they think Stadia will be, but if it is revealed as being more expensive than first thought, that would certainly change things.
And it should also be noted that until Stadia has some killer exclusives or a massive library of titles, it will have a harder time winning over a committed audience.
Both Sony and Microsoft recently received a boost when it came to the PS4 and Xbox One, as well as their next console platforms. While we just saw one of the most anticipated titles arrive on the market – Red Dead Redemption 2 – it won’t be long before another joins it.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to be another massive launch, and some believe it could be one of the best of the current generation. A release date hasn’t been announced for it yet, but there are hopes it will be hitting shelves in early 2020.
This would prove a huge boost for all platforms it is featured on, with both PS4 and Xbox One versions confirmed.
And now it appears that CD Projekt RED are open to porting it over to the PS5 and Xbox Two.
This was hinted at during a recent company earnings call, with Project Red’s Adam Kiciński confirming that this was still an option.
On the subject of Cyberpunk becoming a cross-generational game, KIXKZ revealed: “If there is an opportunity for us to launch Cyberpunk for another generation, we would want to do this.”
This fits in with what the company has said in the past about wanting to release Cyberpunk on as many platforms as possible.
So if the new game from Projekt RED proves to be a smash hit, you can expect an upgraded version on the PS5 and Xbox Two soon as well.
