The PS5 has this week launched in a number of regions around the world first – such as the US, Japan and Australia, but gamers in other countries will have to wait longer. Among those are UK PlayStation fans who will see the PS5 reach our shores on Thursday November 19. If you weren’t lucky enough to get a PS5 pre-order in during the first two waves in the UK in September, then you may be keeping your fingers crossed for the much-rumoured third wave of stock.

For a long time there has been murmurs of a big batch of wave 3 PS5 pre-order stock, but so far this has yet to materialise.

Thankfully though, even if this heavily rumoured PS5 pre-order stock drop doesn’t come to fruition gamers hoping to bag a PlayStation 5 before Christmas have been given a boost.

PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has given an interview with the BBC, speaking about the console’s launch and discussing demand seen so far.

Ryan said Sony has been left “astonished” by the level of pre-orders for PS5, which sold out at lightning fast speeds whenever they became available.

And if you haven’t managed to get a PS5 pre-order in just yet you’ll be pleased to hear that Sony are working to get “significant” supplies in for before and after Christmas.

Ryan said: “We’re making more PS5’s in this difficult environment then we made PS4s in that launch. If people are unable to find one at launch, we’re very sorry and apologetic about that. They can rest assured we’re working really hard to get significant supplies into the market before and after Christmas.

“This is going to be a bigger launch [than the PS4]. And I think given the circumstances we’re in, that’s something that we can be quietly proud of.”

Previously it had been reported that Sony were ramping up production of the PS5 to meet the huge level of demand and interest they had seen prior to the console’s launch. The Nikkei Asian Review claimed that initially Sony were planning to produce six million PS5 units by March 2021, but this was later increased to nine million.

While Bloomberg said Sony was aiming to produce 10million units by the end of 2020. So even if you’re not able to get a PS5 at launch the signs are looking bright that you could still be able to bag a console at some point this year.

In other PS5 news, if you’re looking to get a PS5 on day one just be aware that sales for the next-gen Sony console will be online only. The news was revealed by Sony in a blog post who explained: “Hi all – the launch of the PlayStation 5 console on November 12 (or November 19, depending on your region) is almost upon us!

“In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners. No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase.

“Be safe, stay home, and place your order online. Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailer should still be able to do so at their designated appointment time, under the retailer’s safety protocols.

“Please confirm the details with your local retailer. A special thank you to our entire community for your continued support this year. Here’s to the next generation of gaming!”

Ahead of the PS5’s launch in the UK GAME has confirmed that they will have a “limited” amount of stock that will be available to purchase online.

In an e-mail sent out to customers GAME said: “Limited stock coming launch day online only.

“PS5 console ordering update: The PS5 console will be made available to order online only on launch day, Thursday 19th November.

“Units will not be available for in-store purchase, please continue to check back online for further updates.”

While Currys PC World on Twitter has also said that the retailer will be taking PS5 orders online as well on launch day.

The @curryspcworld account posted: “Interrupting your scrolling with a PS5 console ordering update.

“The PS5 console will be made available to order ONLINE ONLY on launch day, 19th November. Units will not be available for in-store purchase, please continue to check back online for further updates.”
