Sam Raimi says that he and Bruce Campbell are working with a filmmaker who will write and direct a new Evil Dead movie. Raimi is up for directing another one himself, but only if Campbell comes out of retirement as the character.
Raimi made the announcement in a Reddit AMA on Thursday while promoting the remake of The Grudge, which Raimi produced. As for who's making the new Evil Dead movie, Raimi only said that the filmmaker is young and male. He also expressed hope that Campbell will return to the role."Bruce, Rob [Tapert, producer] and I are working with a young fillmaker [sic] who is writing a new Evil Dead story that he will direct," Raimi said. "As for me…. I would love to direct a new Evil Dead movie… but I'd really like to do it with Bruce. And he says he's retired the character. I hope not."When asked if the Evil Dead remake from 2013 will be getting a sequel, Raimi offered this glimpse of hope: "If Fede [Alvarez, the 2013's remake's co-writer and director] would write or direct it, yes, in a split second!"In the same AMA, Raimi said that 1917 is the best movie he's seen in the past year and he would love to reunite with the Coen brothers again. The Evil Dead franchise last appeared as a TV series on Starz that ran from 2015 to 2018. Early in 2019, Campbell's character, Ash, became a playable character in Dead by Daylight. We said that the new Grudge movie was a "dreary and dull reboot" in our review, but Ash vs. Evil Dead made it onto IGN's list of the best horror shows of the decade.
Petey Oneto is a freelance writer for IGN who is praying for Bruce Campbell to play Ash for Sam Raimi again.
