Star Wars: The Bad Batch is a Star Wars spin-off animated series set during the rise of the Empire, and as of today – May the Fourth – it’s available to watch via Disney Plus. Well, the first episode is, at least.
Head writer Jennifer Corbett and producer Brad Rau confirmed that The Bad Batch is a direct sequel to 2008’s The Clone Wars. It follows the adventures of a group of clone troopers – Clone Force 99, also known as the Bad Batch – during the aftermath of the Clone Wars.
Viewers can expect to see a few familiar faces, and Dee Bradley Baker – who has voice-acted in probably every one of your favorite childhood cartoons – voices all of the members of Clone Force 99, namely Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Crosshair, and Echo, as well as Captain Rex.
The members of the Bad Batch each have genetic modifications and exceptional skills that set them apart from the rest of the Clone Army. As a result, each one is a highly capable soldier and together they make quite the formidable squad. The series will see them taking on various daring mercenary missions as they seek new purpose in the post-Clone Wars era.
The Bad Batch premiers today with a special 70-minute episode, and a second episode will follow this Friday, 7 May. Thereafter, you can expect new episodes to air every week, with a total of 16 episodes making up season one.
Along with the debut of The Bad Batch, Disney Plus is extending its Star Wars Day celebrations with a new Star Wars-themed Simpsons short, entitled Maggie Simpson in ‘The Force Awakens From Its Nap.’ Two bundles of visual artwork are also being released today – Star Wars Biomes and Star Wars Vehicle Flythroughs – both of which take you on virtual tours through some of the franchise’s most iconic locations and ships.
