Take A Look At Pedro Pascal And Bella Ramsey In The Last of Us Thanks To This Fan Video

The Last of Us’ iconic first entry is getting HBO live-action series soon with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie respectively. Thanks to a new deepfake video, fans of Naughty Dog’s bestselling title can envision a casting for the TV show that is as close to the original vision as possible.

Since the lead casting announcement for HBO’s upcoming adaptation of The Last of Us,  fans of the game have been divided in social media discussions over bringing Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey from Game of Thrones to the new project. There were both plenty of admirers and detractors of the creative team’s choice, while people involved with The Last of Us, like Joel’s voice actor Troy Baker, fully supported the casting decisions.

Now, YouTuber stryderHD has created a clear demonstration of how Pascal and Ramsey will look in the new live-action series by using deepfake technology with The Last of Us. After combining The Walking Dead’s music, Naughty Dog’s game episodes, and the new actors together, the video achieves its target to assure the most skeptical viewers: The Last of Us adaptation is certainly in good hands.

Viewers quickly reacted to this deepfake video, praising the author’s efforts and convincing final results. The Last of Us with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey was called “absolute canon”, while some people admit they didn’t see them fit before, but clearly see now.

There were some significant debates among fans about who can actually play Joel and Ellie even before HBO officially announced the project by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. Many players saw Nikolaj Coster-Waldau or Viggo Mortensen as Joel, while Kaitlyn Dever was suggested as Ellie. Just before the official announcement, there was also a rumor that Mahershala Ali was offered the role of Joel.

The HBO adaptation of The Last of Us currently has no confirmed release date. The Russian director and fan of the franchise Kantemir Balagov will direct the pilot episode of the highly-anticipated TV show, while composer Gustavo Santaolalla will provide music for the project.
