Car repairs are always a pain in the ass. There's never a good time to be hit with a $500 bill to keep your vehicle running, but for one Tesla owner, it was worse than any of us could ever imagine.
Tuomas Katainen from Finland had only got 932 miles out of his Tesla Model S when it needed a battery replacement. For some reason, Tesla quoted that this would cost an eyewatering $22,600 – half of what he paid for the whole car. So, Katainen did what anyone would do in this situation: handed it over to explosion experts so he could watch it go up in flames, with an effigy of Elon Musk inside.
As reported by The Verge 30kg of dynamite was used in the dramatic sendoff. As you can see for yourself in the video below, everyone is ecstatic to wave goodbye to the car, especially its owner. His face lights up as he and the group go to investigate the debris, and he says it's the most fun he's ever had with the Tesla. "Maybe I am the first person in [the] world who has exploded a Tesla!" he says with a smile on his face, proud that he has potentially "made history".
The horrifically online Mr Musk is yet to respond to the viral video, but he no doubt will. While he at least took a break from fighting online over Christmas, it's likely he'll return to form as we approach the new year. To be fair, I would probably have to gather my thoughts too if someone blew up a dummy with my face on it. But given that I'm not a billionaire who makes a living stealing Reddit memes, he might be less surprised by the development.
However, Musk likely has bigger problems on his mind. The company is being investigated by US regulators for allowing drivers to play games such as The Witcher 3 and Sonic the Hedgehog while on the road. Admittedly, this is only intended to be used by passengers, but there's nothing in place to stop the drive from taking control and being incredibly distracted.
