I love lazy Sundays and if you’re anything like me, you’ve spent most of the day either sleeping, snoozing, or simply dozing off to some tunes. This of course means that you’ve gotten behind on everything that’s been going on in the world of gaming, so now you’ve got a bunch of catching up to do. Well, no worries about that one because we’ve got you covered with this handy news roundup. Today, we found out that Eidos Montreal wants to pick up where it left off with Deus Ex, Fatal Fury will be returning after a 20 year hiatus, and Bandai Namco might just have Tekken 8 in the works. There’s more where this came from, so read on for the rest.
Deus Ex Developer Reportedly Wants To Return To The Series
The hope of ever getting another Deus Ex game basically evaporated when the studio behind the series, Eidos Montreal, was sold off by Square Enix, but the developer apparently wants to pick things up where it left off. The news comes from industry watcher Jeff Grubb who noted how "the rumbling I've heard is that the studio wants to immediately get into Deus Ex.” Grubb went on to describe how "they want to get right back into that. They want the challenge. They want to do what Cyberpunk 2077 couldn't and stuff like that. That's the word going around. We'll see if that happens. It's so early, like what that will turn into. But there was no possibility for that conversation to begin under the current Square Enix, right?" I for one would love another entry in the Deus Ex franchise.
Crisis Core Reunion Is More Than A Remaster But "Not A Complete Remake" Says Creative Producer
According to Creative Producer Tetsuya Nomura, the upcoming Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core Reunion isn’t just a remaster, but it’s not a complete remake, either. What does that even mean? Well, I frankly don’t know, but Nomura had a few things to say on the topic. "The graphics have been completely renewed, the models have been remade from scratch, many scenes that in the original were only subtitled are now dubbed, and also the combat system has been updated," he remarked. "We are still uncertain on the term that better describes the game which is the reason why we used ‘reunion.’ It’s really complicated, as it’s much more than a remaster, but at the same time, is not a complete remake.”
EVE: Valkyrie Server Shutdown Removes Single-Player Campaign Too
The live service game EVE: Valkyrie is now truly dead and gone. The servers have gone fully offline, leaving even the singleplayer content inaccessible. Such is life, I suppose. "We are incredibly proud of what we accomplished with EVE: Valkyrie and its Warzone expansion and want to extend our deep appreciation to all our players for their support throughout the game's lifecycle,” the developer behind the game, CCP, said about the move. “It is an honor to have been a part of such a dedicated community."
Fatal Fury Series Returns After 20 Year Hiatus
The classic fighting game franchise Fatal Fury has been left basically untouched ever since the most recent entry in the series, Mark of the Wolves, came out way back in 1999. SNK however announced on stage at the latest EVO held in Las Vegas, Nevada that we can expect something big in the very near future. What precisely this entails remains to be seen, but another Fatal Fury is in any case assured. “Legends never die,” SNK remarked. “After more than 20 years, Fatal Fury/ Garou is coming back! Finally, the long awaited sequel has been green-lit!” Get ready to engage in something that rhymes with “tumble.”
Tekken 8 Teased At EVO 2022
Bandai Namco recently teased what could turn out to be another entry in the Tekken franchise. The news comes by way of the latest EVO during which the publisher screened a brief teaser trailer that begins with a shot of Kazuya carrying Heihachi to the edge of a cliff before cutting to a close up of Mishima and the words "get ready.” This all suggests that something big is brewing, but in typical teaser fashion, we don’t yet know exactly what. Could this be Tekken 8? The only thing I can say for sure is time will tell.
