Uplay is coming to an end, as a new service starts that will help games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla use cross-play and cross-progression.
Ubisoft has announced a new free service called Ubisoft Connect, which will combine Uplay and Ubisoft Club services into a system that adds cross-play and cross-progression to new games.
The first title to use it will be Watch Dogs: Legion, which launches on October 29, with Ubisoft Connect accessible either directly through the game or via your PC or mobile.
Cross-play is being promised for ‘select games’ but will likely include all new multiplayer titles. Cross-progression, where you can continue a game from where you left off on a different version, will work with most upcoming new titles.
You will still need to login with a Ubisoft Account to use it, while Ubisoft tempts you with a variety of loyalty rewards similar to the ones already available from the Ubisoft Club.
Rewards are gained by levelling up your Ubisoft Account with experience points earned by buying new games and logging hours playing them.
The rewards seem to all be in-game items and include character skins, weapon skins, and useable in-game items.
Ubisoft Connect will also be added to all currently live titles, so things like Rainbow Six Siege and For Honor.
Older games that aren’t live service titles will just have their existing challenge system unlocked and the rewards given to everyone straight away.
There’re more details at the official website, but we’re sure you won’t be able to miss it whenever you boot up a new Ubisoft game in the future.
