World of Warcraft allows you to choose up to two professions, and Herbalism is an ever-popular choice both for money-making and crafting consumables. As a gathering-focused profession, it pairs excellently with a crafting profession that relies on a steady supply of flora, such as Alchemy or Inscription. Without recipes to craft, however, it can be tricky to know the best way to level your Herbalism skill, especially across multiple expansions.

This guide will demonstrate how to efficiently level up your Herbalism profession to the WotLK maximum, by showing you the best herbs to gather, how much of each you should look to farm, and the best places to find these plants.

How To Level Classic Herbalism

Due to the high amount of different herbs you will have to farm, leveling Classic Herbalism is the toughest part of the grind. Unlike other gathering professions such as Mining, there is no way to power level Herbalism, and you will need to roam around the open world to advance your skill. Try to make frequent trips back to your trainer, and if you can combine leveling your Herbalism alongside your character, then it should smooth out the grind somewhat.

The best race and class combo for Herbalism is a Tauren Druid, thanks to increased skill from their racial and Flight and Travel Form making it easy to gather out in the open world

How To Level The Burning Crusade Herbalism

Due to most players playing the current expansion, Outland zones should not be very busy, and you could find yourself leveling very quickly through this segment, depending on your server population. Journey to Hellfire Peninsula with a minimum skill of 275, and you will be able to learn your new Herbalism rank from your faction trainer.

  • Horde players will need to talk to Ruak Stronghorn at Thrallmar.

How To Level Wrath Of The Lich King Herbalism

WotLK adds in a new spell for Herbalists in the form of Lifeblood. A decent heal over five seconds, this spell makes Herbalism quite an attractive option, as it now has an in-combat benefit. Upon reaching level 350, you can continue to level in Outland for another 25 levels, but it is recommended to venture into Northrend, as the herbs will be much more valuable.

You can often make a tidy profit, especially if you can turn your herbs into important consumables using a profession such as Alchemy, and remember to keep hold of crafting reagents you happen across, such as Crystallized Water. Many WotLK zones are good for gathering herbs, and you may want to switch depending on what you are currently trying to farm.

Your new Grand Master Herbalism trainers can be found in the initial WotLK starting zones:

  • Fayin Whisperleaf, Howling Fjord, Valgarde (Alliance)
  • Kirea Moondancer, Borean Tundra, Valiance Keep (Alliance)
  • Marjory Kains, Howling Fjord, Vengeance Landing (Horde)
  • Tansy Wildmane, Borean Tundra, Warsong Hold (Horde)
