Zeld@ Ocarina Quest of Time may be the most hilariously blatant rip-off ever

Somewhere in Tokyo Nintendo’s lawyers have just been activated, as a laughably inept clone of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time appears on Google Play.

Recent reports suggest that Nintendo is losing interest in mobile games, with no new apps announced since Mario Kart Tour and the Switch proving far bigger a hit than they expected.

That means they’ve never got round to that Zelda game they were rumoured to be making, but wherever there’s a gap in the market capitalism is there to fill it with… Zeld@ Ocarina Quest of Time?

It goes without saying that the app has nothing to do with Nintendo but while the name is hilarious, and the game is a mix of dungeons and open world exploration, it’s not actually a copy of the real Ocarina Of Time.

Zeld@ Ocarina Quest of Time is only available on Android, so you can’t play it on iPhone, but it is a free download. Although that’s because the game is filled with intrusive adverts.

And as blatant as the name is there may be nothing Nintendo can do about it without a sizeable legal battle, although given how zealously they usually protect their games that may be exactly what they’re planning.

For what it’s worth the user reviews are mostly negative, although the game does have an almost-average 2.3 out of 5 score.

‘Despite being an obvious bootleg [it] gives quite a challenge to players when it comes to its dungeons. I don’t know why, but unlike other people I enjoy this game. It’s not perfect, but games aren’t cheap to create. The rewards make the dungeons feel worth it. Bosses and traps are difficult too’, writes Cpl. Karambit.

‘Terrible!!! First they’re a rip-off of my favourite game of all time then they put it in terrible graphics with a stupid story’, counters Tammy Spencer.

‘Absolutely terrible controls, camera is appalling in this, can’t see where you’re going mostly, every time you go through a door – 30 second video, EVERY TIME. This app is a waste of time, do NOT download!!!’, adds Ricky Inglis.
