Crasher Wake, Pastoria City gym – Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl guide

Crasher Wake is the fourth gym leader in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and he’s a water-type specialist in Pastoria City. Our Pastoria gym leader guide will assist you by listing out his party and recommending counters that you can find nearby.

Pastoria City gym challenge

Crasher Wake’s gym puts you in a puzzle where different buttons raise and lower the water levels of the gym. Luckily, the puzzle is pretty linear. You can only go in one direction and don’t really have a lot of button options to choose from as you walk along the path. Take out the trainers as you go until you get to Crasher Wake.

Crasher Wake’s Pokémon

Crasher Wake uses water-type Pokémon, but you’ve passed by many Pokémon who will help counter him, so he shouldn’t be a huge issue. He uses the following:

  1. Gyarados, level 27, water/flying
  2. Quagsire, level 27, water/ground
  3. Floatzel, level 30, water

Be careful against his Quagsire, as its dual ground-typing makes it so electric-type moves have no effect against it. Floatzel also knows Ice Fang, which will be super effective against grass-type Pokémon, so you’ll need to be mindful of that as well.

Crasher Wake counters

At this point, your starter has likely fully evolved. If you started with Turtwig, your Torterra should be able to make pretty quick work of Crasher Wake. If you didn’t pick Turtwig, you can use any grass- or electric-type Pokémon to defeat his water-types. You can find some counters in the following locations:

  • Budew, grass
    Route 204, 212
  • Cherubi, grass
    Honey trees
  • Shinx, electric
    Route 202, 204, 218
  • Pachirisu, electric
    Route 205

While you can find these Pokémon in these routes, they should be leveled up and evolved to around 30 before you take on Crasher Wake.

Crasher Wake gym rewards

Once you beat Crasher Wake, you’ll be able to use the HM Defog outside of battle, so you can clear foggy areas in the world. He’ll also give you several copies of TM55, so you can teach your Pokémon Brine, a water-type move that deals double damage to Pokémon with less than half their HP remaining. You’ll also get some stickers to decorate your Poké Balls with.
