Intel’s New Gaming Laptop CPUs Max Out at 5.0GHz

After introducing a full lineup of 9th Generation desktop processors, it was inevitable laptops would get their own new CPUs, and today Team Blue has introduced the 9th Gen H-series chips coming to a gaming laptop near you.

We’re not kidding, these new 9th Gen H-series will power no less than 24 gaming laptops that will be shipping soon, if not today. But before we get to all the new hardware powered by these processors, you should know Intel’s new, mightiest mobile processor, the Intel Core i9-9980HK, now comes with 8-cores , 16-threads, and can operate at clock speeds up to 5.0GHz.

Just under Intel’s flagship processor is the Intel Core i9-9880H, which is essentially a new locked Core i9 part for ultraportable laptops designed for creatives—cue the next MacBook Pro.

Top of the line chips aside, the entire new 9th Gen H-series lineup is increasing memory support to 128GB, doubling the current RAM cap.

Additionally, these CPUs feature native support for Wi-Fi 6, the wireless standard formally known as 802.11ax, through the introduction of Wi-Fi AX200 (Gig+) components. According to Intel, these chips will power the first mobile platforms to support Wi-Fi 6,  which provides three times faster data transmission rates and 75% reduced latency compared to 80211.AC.

The complete family

Intel also took this opportunity to full round out its desktop 9th Generation family by introducing a bevy of new Core processors.

These new chips include everything from non-K series processors that can’t overclock, additional SKUs of the often begrudged F-series that lacks integrated graphics without any reduction in price, to low-energy T-series chips designed for all-in-one desktops and compact PCs. Like their mobile brethren, these new Intel 9th Gen CPUs come with native support for Wi-Fi 6 and up to 128GB of RAM.

The full rundown of Intel’s new 9th Generation processors is as follows:

  • Intel Core i9-9900: 8-cores, 16-threads, clocked at 3.1GHz to 5.0GHz, $439
  • Intel Core i9-9900T: 8-cores, 16-threads, clocked at 2.1GHz to 4.4GHz, $439
  • Intel Core i7-9700: 8-cores, 8-threads, clocked at 3.0Ghz to 4.7GHz, $323
  • Intel Core i9-9700F: 8-cores, 8-threads, clocked at 3.0Ghz to 4.7GHz, $323
  • Intel Core i7-9700T: 8-cores, 8-threads, clocked at 2.0Ghz to 4.3GHz, $323
  • Intel Core i5-9600: 6-cores, 6-threads, clocked at 3.1Ghz to 4.6GHz, $213
  • Intel Core i5-9600F: 6-cores, 6-threads, clocked at 3.1Ghz to 4.6GHz, $213
  • Intel Core i5-9600T: 6-cores, 6-threads, clocked at 2.3Ghz to 3.9GHz, $213
  • Intel Core i5-9500: 6-cores, 6-threads, clocked at 3.1Ghz to 4.6GHz, $192
  • Intel Core i5-9500F: 6-cores, 6-threads, clocked at 3.1Ghz to 4.6GHz, $213
  • Intel Core i5-9500T: 6-cores, 6-threads, clocked at 2.2Ghz to 3.7GHz, $192
  • Intel Core i5-9400T: 6-cores, 6-threads, clocked at 1.8Ghz to 3.4GHz, $182
  • Intel Core i3-9350K: 4-cores, 4-threads, clocked at 4.0Ghz to 4.6GHz, $173
  • Intel Core i3-9320: 4-cores, 4-threads, clocked at 3.7Ghz to 4.4GHz, $154
  • Intel Core i3-9300: 4-cores, 4-threads, clocked at 3.7Ghz to 4.3GHz, $143
  • Intel Core i3-9300T: 4-cores, 4-threads, clocked at 3.7Ghz to 4.3GHz, $143
  • Intel Core i3-9100: 4-cores, 4-threads, clocked at 3.6Ghz to 4.2GHz, $122
  • Intel Core i3-9100F: 4-cores, 4-threads, clocked at 3.6Ghz to 4.2GHz, $122
  • Intel Core i3-9100T: 4-cores, 4-threads, clocked at 3.1Ghz to 3.7GHz, $122

Although this has been a pretty massive CPU launch by Intel, it probably won’t be the last one we see this year. Given the Santa Clara-based company’s usual mobile CPU release cadence, you can expect U-series processors destined for Ultrabooks and regular notebooks to show up sometime in the middle of the year.
