Since the announcement in 2012, CD Projekt has been touting the next-generation look and feel of its next role-playing game — Cyberpunk 2077. On Tuesday, during the Nvidia GeForce Special Event, the graphics card manufacturer showed fans their first look at the game running on the upcoming RTX 30 series GPUs. The results more or less speak for themselves. We’ve embedded the trailer above, and it’s also available on YouTube.
The 47-second clip shows lots of wide shots of areas that have already been shown in gameplay trailers, plus a few new ones. This time around, the visuals have been cranked up to 11 thanks a a bunch of new bells and whistles. Nvidia says its new 3070, 3080, and 3090 graphics cards will provide the best visual experience of the game possible. The trailer showed off sharp ray tracing, volumetric clouds of smoke you could cut with a monomolecular knife, and reflections in everything from greasy puddles to someone’s shiny metal ass.
The trailer also highlighted how the game will tackle diffuse illumination — think softer, directional lights in dim areas as well as bright, neon light sources that change the look of entire spaces. It looks to be just the thing for making Cyberpunk’s dangerous nighttime environments sing. Everything will be improved, Nvidia says, by its latest implementation of DLSS — Nvidia’s Deep Learning’ Super Sampling technology — which uses artificial intelligence to upscale resolutions and boost framerates.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed twice. The game is now expected to launch in November for Xbox One, Windows PC, and PlayStation 4. The flourishes in the trailer above will only be available on PC at launch.
Pre-orders for CD Projekt’s upcoming RPG are discounted at Amazon right now. It’s available on Xbox One, PS4, and Windows PC.
